I have been sitting here contemplating where to even start with this blog We have been raising backyard chickens on and off for the last 15 years I honestly have a long list of all the wonderful and also hard lessons our backyard adventure has taught us Who knew that what started out as a way to get good quality eggs would turn into this!?! It’s March! We are getting so close to spring I can feel it March is a fun month in our family because of all the birthdays My husband and youngest son both have birthdays in March as well as my Gramma Lou! We love to celebrate life around here, so I thought it’d be fun to highlight my Gramma this week Gramma’s birthday is on St Patrick’s Day so that adds a little extra fun We will be celebrating her 92nd birthday with her and we’re I am so excited to write this blog! We have been raising backyard chickens on and off for the last 15 years So, naturally, we’ve learned some of the do’s and don’ts of raising backyard chickens While the list could be quite long, I’m going to give you the top 3 things I wished I would have known when first starting out on our backyard chicken adventure! When I got back into chickens a few years ago, I started in the fall Our local farm supply store didn’t carry chicks in the fall, so I mail ordered our babies! At first, I was a little hesitant to do that I had a lot of questions such as, “How on earth do they stay alive? Will they be weak and listless by the time they get here? Will it be too cold for them?” And the list went on However, after safely ordering chicks Today we’re going to talk about one of my favorite breeds Who am I kidding! I feel like all the breeds are my favorite! Haha! Except maybe not Wyandottes I haven’t had a great experience with that breed However, we’re not talking about the other breeds today Today, it’s all about Brahmas! It’s February! This is going to annoy some of you I’m sure, but I love the month of February I’m not sure if it’s because we know that spring is getting close, or because I truly enjoy the Valentine’s holiday I have always loved Valentine’s day (insert some of your eyerolls herehaha) and try to make this holiday a little extra special I always feel like it’s fun to celebrate those we love!

It’s Springtime and my girls are picking up steam in the egg department We have a busy household and while our family goes through a lot of eggs, the girls are out-laying our appetites! We do sell eggs at the end of our driveway in the summertime, but for now, I have decided to gift some eggs for Easter
