Happy’s Birthday Cake

Last week we celebrated Happy and my original 10 girls’ birthday! Yes. We had a party. These girls deserve to be celebrated! Birthdays have always been fun events in our home, and so naturally, my family wasn’t shocked when I told them about my party plans. At this point, we’ve moved past weird and gone right into crazy when it comes to our feathered friends!

Along with this crazy, came a homemade birthday “cake”. You know what I love the most about this cake? I know EXACTLY what I’m giving my girls. There’s no hidden ingredients and they absolutely LOVED it!

Happy with her birthday cake!

Happy’s Birthday Cake Recipe

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups scratch grains
  • 1 cup flax seeds (I used ground and it worked fine)
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup dried meal worms
  • ½ cup chia seeds
  • A couple shakes of cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • ¾ cup blackstrap molasses
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • 4-5 eggs (crush the shells and throw them in there too)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. You can use a loaf pan, but to make it more fun, I used a round cake pan. Line the pan with parchment paper. Mix the dry ingredients together. Then, mix in the wet ingredients. Press the cake batter into the pan and bake for 45 minutes. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 30 minutes to make sure it sets.

You guys, it smelled SO delicious! If it weren’t for the meal worms sprinkled throughout, it would have been tempting for me to try it!

Super easy, super fun, and super healthy to celebrate your flock’s birthday!
