Elf on the Shelf Elf Eggs

Do any of you participate into the very popular Elf on the Shelf game leading up to Christmas? I enjoy scrolling through social media to see what these little elves are up to and the trouble they sometimes find themselves in. There are so many fun ideas and inspiration out there, but if you’re stuck and looking for a new idea, how about making “elf eggs”!

Grab some eggs from the coop, dye them red (or any color you’d like) and prep a mischievous breakfast setting . In the morning, the kids will wake up to Elfie ready to make them breakfast!

How to Make Elf Eggs

What you will need:

Large pot of boiling water

A couple heat-resistant containers (glass jars or bowls)

White vinegar

Red food coloring

Directions:

Bring your water to a boil. Measure out ½ Cup or so of the boiling water into each heat-resistant container. Add 1 tsp of white vinegar and 10-20 drops of food coloring. You can use more or less depending on your desired color. Allow the dye to cool before you color your eggs.

Note:

While it’s most common to dye white eggs, have you ever tried dying brown eggs? They are beautiful! We dyed brown eggs this past Easter and the colors take on a jeweled tone.

If you really want to get fancy, put some Christmas stickers on before you dye the eggs. Then, peel the stickers off when the eggs dry and you will have fun little Christmas designs on your eggs.

Merry Christmas!
