Benefits of Tea Tree & Lavender Essential Oils

This week we’re going to talk about the benefits of tea tree and lavender essential oils for your chickens. We use both lavender and tea tree essential oils in our home as well as our coop. I think one of the biggest reasons that some backyard chicken keepers are leery of using essential oils is because they aren’t sure which ones are safe for their flock as well as how much to use and where.

One of the reasons I love Strong Animals Chicken Essentials products is that they have put in the hard work to research and formulate to find the right (and safe) essential oils in the correct amounts to benefit your flock.

I’ve been using these products faithfully for 4 years now. My flock has continued to thrive naturally. So, for those of you who are on the fence about incorporating essential oils into your flock, I’d encourage you to take the leap with Strong Animal Chicken Essentials. They’ve been using essential oils for many years and know what they’re doing!

Today we’re going to focus on the two essential oils found in the Bye-Bye Boo Boos™ spray. The Bye-Bye Boo Boos is a wound spray for poultry. It’s safe for all types! Bye-Bye Boo Boos has been a great addition to our coop. It’s not too often that one of the girls gets a cut or abrasion. However, when they do, I like to treat it right away with this!

Benefits of Tea Tree & Lavender Essential Oils

It contains organic lavender and tea tree essential oils. According to Mayo Clinic, “Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil, is an essential oil that comes from steaming the leaves of the Australian tea tree. When used topically, tea tree oil is believed to be antibacterial.” Tea tree oil is also good for working against fungi and has some great healing properties. Tea tree oil is also a bug deterrent, so if there is a wound, bugs such as flies won’t want to bother the wound. Flystrike can become a big problem if wounds aren’t taken care of properly. Tea tree oil discourages flystrike while encouraging the wounds healing process.

Lavender is probably one of the most common essential oils out there. Lavender is much more than just a pretty flower. According to Sonoma Lavender, “Lavender is a potent antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory so it can be used to treat a number of skin problems like eczema, psoriasis and other allergies.” Lavender is also known to speed up wound healing. Lavender encourages relaxation and can calm bites, wounds or abrasions. It’s also a natural bug repellant as well.

The combination of the incredible properties of both essential oils creates a wound spray that’s super safe for your pets and you! There is no egg withdrawal period with Bye-Bye Boo Boos. This means that you don’t have to throw away eggs for any period while using this spray. It’s perfectly fine to continue egg consumption with all the Strong Animals Chicken Essentials products. That’s one of the things I love most about this company! Anything that would make us throw away eggs because it’s not safe for us to eat, makes me think twice before putting it on my feathered friends too! I understand there are sometimes extreme cases. But, if I can treat our flock naturally, that’s the route I’d like to go.

Lavender and tea tree essential oils are great and have incredible benefits for your flock…and you! As always, I encourage you to do your own research. Make sure that what you’re putting into your and your family’s body will bring benefits and not problems down the road. I have confidence in these products, and I know you will too!

Until next time,
