Generally, the Bobwhite Quail is known more for wildlife and hunting activities than its domestic qualities, like the eggs and meat they yield. Females lay approximately 150 small cream eggs a year, making them great egg layers and having many of the same qualities as their Coturnix cousin. But unlike the Coturnix, the Bobwhite is native to the United States and gets its name from the very sound it makes. They are very lightweight birds weighing only five to six ounces.
